Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
Trivia - Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King

Summary from Amazon
Middle-aged rock star Judas Coyne collects morbid curios for fun, so doesn't think twice about buying a suit advertised at an online auction site as haunted by its dead owner's ghost. Only after it arrives does Judas discover that the suit belonged to Craddock McDermott, the stepfather of one of Coyne's discarded groupies, and that the old man's ghost is a malignant spirit determined to kill Judas in revenge for his stepdaughter's suicide. Judas isn't quite the cad or Craddock the avenging angel this scenario makes them at first, but their true motivations reveal themselves only gradually in a fast-paced plot that crackles with expertly planted surprises and revelations.

Princess Bookie's Contest Craze

The first Contest Craze Mini Challenge #1 is to blog about your top 5 list of books for 2011 and why you want them!
The winner will receive a pack of ARCs.

Here are my five top books:

Away (The Line, #2) by Teri Hall Published 2011
"The Line" ended on a great cliffhanger and I am very curious where the story will lead next.

The Water Wars by Cameron Stracher - January 1st 2011
Dystopian novels are one of my favorite genres and I've heard a lot of good reviews about this book.

Across the Universe by Beth Revis - January 11th 2011
A sci-fi, love story, and thriller - what's not to love? I'm not sure if it’s what I'm expecting but I'm can barely wait to finding out.

The Dark and Hollow Places by by Carrie Ryan - March 22nd 2011
The Forest of Hands and Teeth series is one of my favorites and I'm really looking forward to rest of the story. Carrie Ryan writes from the heart and it shows.

The Land of Painted Caves (Earth's Children, #6) by Jean M. Auel - March 29th 2011
Where to start? I have waited year after year for the next installment in this series. Finally, here we are at the end; I will be sad to finish but I never want to wait for books like this again. It almost put me off reading series, at least until they were complete. Hopefully, the years of waiting (more then I care to admit) will pay off.

James Patterson's "Witch & Wizard" - Banned Materials

I read James Patterson's Witch & Wizard and at the back of the book Patterson includes an appendix titled - Excerpts of NEW ORDER PROPAGANDA as Disseminated by The Council of N.O. "Arts" section.

I felt the need to decipher the "Banned Materials" (with Google's help) in honor of Banned Books Week and how censorship is ridiculous.

Here are my answers (guesses):
Especially Offensive Books That Have Been Banned: As Dictated by The One Who Bans Books
The Blueprints of Bruno Genet - The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
Margaret's Pen - Charlotte's Web by E. B. White
The Pitcher in the Wheat - The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
The Thunder Stealer - The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Ratter's Trip Down - Watership Down by Richard Adams
Gary Blotter and the Guild of Rejects - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Firegirl Saga - The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer
The Eldest Dragon - the Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr books by Christopher Paolini

edit to add: Maybe The Firegirl Saga is the The Firekeeper Saga; I haven't read this series but it is closer to the source.

Infinite Days (Vampire Queen #1) by Rebecca Maizel

Grief is an emotion not completely foreign to vampires but it feels more like a shift or a change in the direction of the wind. It is a silent flutter, a parasitic reminder of the many layers of pain that define the vampire world.

"Waiting On" Wednesday: Razorland

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Razorland by Ann Aguirre
Published April 12th 2011

From Amazon:
In Deuce's world, people earn the right to a name only if they survive their first fifteen years. By that point, each unnamed 'brat' has trained into one of three groups-Breeders, Builders, or Hunters, identifiable by the number of scars they bear on their arms. Deuce has wanted to be a Huntress for as long as she can remember.

As a Huntress, her purpose is clear--to brave the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading ferocious monsters known as Freaks. She's worked toward this goal her whole life, and nothing's going to stop her, not even a beautiful, brooding Hunter named Fade. When the mysterious boy becomes her partner, Deuce's troubles are just beginning.
Down below, deviation from the rules is punished swiftly and harshly, and Fade doesn't like following orders. At first she thinks he's crazy, but as death stalks their sanctuary, and it becomes clear the elders don't always know best, Deuce wonders if Fade might be telling the truth. Her partner confuses her; she's never known a boy like him before, as prone to touching her gently as using his knives with feral grace.

As Deuce's perception shifts, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival. The mindless Freaks, once considered a threat only due to their sheer numbers, show signs of cunning and strategy... but the elders refuse to heed any warnings. Despite imminent disaster, the enclave puts their faith in strictures and sacrifice instead. No matter how she tries, Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she's ever known.
